Centreville is a small town in the Eastern Shore region of Maryland. It is located about 60 miles east of Baltimore and 60 miles east of Washington, District of Columbia. Centreville is positioned in Queen Anne’s County, serves as the county’s seat of government, and is the largest city therein. According to the United States Census Bureau, there were approximately 4,680 people living in Centreville in 2016.

Centreville was created following an Act of the Assembly that authorized the removal of the county seat of Queen Anne’s County from Queenstown to the central part of the county. The name of the new location of the county seat was named Centre Ville. In 1792, construction on a new courthouse was begun. The courthouse was completed sometime following 1792 and in 1794 the town was designed on 37 lots. About two years later, a market was constructed in the new town. Growth and development continued to flourish in Centreville during its early years. Today, Centreville continues to experience growth. Individuals who visit the town will discover a beautiful downtown, large homes, and unique shopping and dining experiences.
